18 December 2018, Geneva: IBE Learning Series - Launch of the 2019 GEM Report, Geneva, International Migrants Day

UNESCO’s International Bureau of Education (IBE) is organising a launch of the 2019 Global Education Monitoring Report Migration, displacement and education: Building bridges, not walls. The event will take place at IBE’s Geneva headquarters from 1:30- 3:30 PM, on Tuesday 18 December 2018.

Timed to coincide with International Migrant’s Day and soon after the planned adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, the event will discuss key findings and recommendations from the 2019 GEM Report and reflect on the inclusion of migrant children and youth in national education systems and education’s role in making societies more resilient to migrant flows.

This joint event hosted by IBE and UNESCO’s GEM Report will open with welcome remarks from IBE-UNESCO Director Dr. Mmantsetsa Marope. A high-level panel consisting of education policy makers, representatives of international institutions, academics and practitioners will reflect on the capacity of the education systems to include children and youth from migrant backgrounds.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Manos Antoninis, Director of the Global Education Monitoring Report
  • Thomas Huddleston, Programme Director on Migration and Integration, Migration Policy Group
  • June Lee, Senior Research Officer, Migration Policy Research, International Organization for Migration
  • Mmantsetsa Marop, IBE-UNESCO Director
  • Pia Oberoi, Advisor on Migration and Human Rights, Thematic Engagement, Special Procedures and Right to Development Division, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

We hope to see you there
