R4D Panel: Is education’s aid architecture broken? 9 September 2019

Nick Burnett, R4D Senior Fellow, makes the case for reform in the architecture of international education aid in a recently released essay in the International Journal of Educational Development. As part of the debate on this essay, Steven J. Klees provides in his NORRAG Highlights an analysis and some thoughts on the global education crisis and what needs to be done to tackle it.

To discuss the issues addressed in Nick Burnett’s essay, R4D is convening a panel in Washington DC where speakers will explore the current state of education architecture and ways in which it can be improved. Questions to be discussed include: To what extent is the current aid architecture fit for purpose? Which reforms to the current aid architecture are most critical and which actors are best placed to lead such reforms?

The discussants include:

  • Julie Cram, USAID Deputy Assistant Minister, Bureau for Economic Growth, Education and Environment
  • Annette Dixon, World Bank Vice President for Human Development
  • Robert Jenkins, UNICEF Education Chief
  • Gina Lagomarsino, R4D President and CEO
  • Dzingai Mutumbuka, Former Minister of Education for Zimbabwe
