21-23 March 2021 - Gulf Comparative Education Society Hosts "Rethinking Educational Reform in the GCC: Reflecting on the Past to Inform the Future”
The Gulf Comparative Education Society (GCES) is hosting their 9th Biannual Conference on “Rethinking Educational Reform in the GCC: Reflecting on the Past to Inform the Future” virtually from the 21st to the 23rd of March, 2021.
The GCES Conference will feature over 45 panel presentations and 4 keynote speeches by education experts across three days. Among the distinguished presenters are: Prof. Susan L. Robertson (University of Cambridge), Dr. Diego Santori (King’s College London), and Prof. Salwa Al-Jassar (Kuwait University, former member of the National Assembly of Kuwait).
The conference kicks off on Sunday, March 21 at 11:00AM (UTC+03:00) with opening remarks by Prof. Ahoud Alasfour, GCES President, and Prof. N’Dri T. Assié-Lumumba, President of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies (WCCES). Conference presentations will be held in English and Arabic, with live interpretation provided throughout.
- Panels on Day 1 bridge past and future perspectives by reflecting on how education has been and continues to change over time.
- The discussions taking place on Day 2 emphasize the potential for educational exchange to promote growth, collaboration, and national development.
- Lastly, the sessions held on Day 3 address the nexus between education, innovation, and reform, while reflecting on how educators and policymakers can tackle the challenges posed by the coronavirus in a post-COVID-19 era.
This year’s event was made possible through the aid of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) and the continuous support of the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research. Together, such foundations have played a pivotal role in the organization of past events while simultaneously influencing educational policy in the UAE and the greater Arab Gulf region.

إن المؤتمر التاسع يدور حول موضوع “إعادة التفكير في إصلاح التعليم في دول الخليج العربي: التعلّم من الماضي لسبيل المستقبل” ويحتوي على أكثر من 45 عرضاً تقديمياً و4 كلمات رئيسية مقدمة من قبل خبراء التعليم على مدار ثلاثة أيام. نتطلع إلى ترحيب علماء خليجيين ودوليين، مثل البروفيسورة سوزان ل. روبرتسون (جامعة كامبريدج) والدكتور دييغو سانتوري (كينجز كوليدج لندن) و البروفيسورة سلوى الجسار (جامعة الكويت؛ سياسية ونائبة سابقة في مجلس الأمة الكويتي).
سيبدأ المؤتمر يوم الأحد 21 مارس على الساعة 11:00 صباحاً (التوقيت العالمي الموحد +3:00) مع كلمة افتتاحية ستلقيها رئيسة المؤتمر الدكتورة عهود العصفور والدكتورة إندري تيريز أسيه لومومبا. جميع الجلسات ستكون متوفرة باللغة الإنجليزية واللغة العربية من خلال الترجمة الفورية.
