Job Board: PhD position in Comparative and International Education at the University of Vienna
The University of Vienna is currently offering a PhD position in Comparative and International Education. The advertised position is located at the Department of Education, Faculty of Philosophy and Education, and is part of the research unit “Comparative and International Education” within the section “School, Education and Society”. The Department’s main responsibilities lie within the area of teaching and research in the field of Education. The unit’s research focuses on education and socialization processes across different societies; on globalization in education and processes of transnational educational ‘borrowing’ and ‘lending’; and the role of international organizations and programs for local educational policy and practice. Applications are especially welcome from students with an interest in the Global South, and who have knowledge of one or more non-European language. The closing deadline is 4 November.
Duration of employment: 4 year/s
Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
Participation in research, teaching and administration:
– Working on individual PhD project
– We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months, field of doctoral research: Education
– Participation in research projects and applications / research studies
– Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
– Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
– Supervision of students
– Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
– Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Profile:
– Completed masters degree (educational science / pedagogy / educational science or a related discipline)
– Professional competence in the field of Comparative and International Education
– Methodological competence in the field of Comparative and International Education
– High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
– Excellent command of written and spoken English
– Good command of an additional foreign language
– IT user skills
– Ability to work in a team
Desirable qualifications are
– Experience with qualitative research methods, in particular with document and policy analysis and fieldwork
– Research interest in recent international developments in education
– Initial experience regarding research on education in the Global South (particularly Asia)
– Knowledge of a non-European language
– Experience abroad
– Ability to work in a multicultural environment
